In our Magazine section we publish a series of projects by the multidisciplinary office Carve, which primarily develops public spaces. In our case, we picked out their designs for playgrounds and kid´s architecture. Moreover, we investigated three temporal installations by three Spanish architects (C+ Arquitectos, Andrés Jaque e Izaskun Chinchilla Moreno) which are accompanied by an exclusive article by Lluís Alexandre Casanovas Blanco. Finally in this section we review the first Biennial of Architecture in Chicago, whose importance and significance owes itself to projects and installations that are potential innovations in our field.
In the Practice section we publish an exclusive interview by our editors Rodrigo Kommers Wender and Javier Agustín Rojas to the Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan. Next, we present four of his buildings, all located in his country of origin. Later on, we continue with three projects by Neutelings Riedijk Architects, an office from the city of Rotterdam, which stands out due to the programmatic complexity and decorative surfaces of their commercial, public and cultural buildings . Lastly, we celebrate 10 years of the Argentinean studio adamo-faiden by showing five of their latest designs.
In our Theory section we present a new edition of OOT, where Ciro Najle converses with Julián Varas. We also published an article by Pedro Gadanho, former curator of the Department of Architecture and Design of MoMA, in which he explores the urban inequalities that exists nowadays in relationship to his exhibition Uneven Growth: Tactical Urbanisms for Expanding Megacities (November 2014 – May 2015, MoMA, New York). We close up with an article by Saskia Sassen that expresses issues on cities and what she calls “tactical urbanism”.
Carve. Designing public spaces for kids. Office founded in 1997 by Elger Blitz and Mark van der Eng in Amsterdam. A multidisciplinary studio that combines architecture, civil and industrial engineering and landscape. They develop and plan public spaces, especially for children. In this edition we publish five projects that represent their particular esthetic: Bijlmerpark, Gardens by the bay, Billy Holiday, Osdorp Oever and Zorlu Center.
Estrías, deformaciones y recovecos de lo “público”. Three instalations by Spanish architects. This article expresses, throughout the installations Polivagina de Fan Riots, Cosmo and Organic Growth, different strategies that were used to mediate with this new context for architecture and art, in which the sense of “public” becomes more complex.
The State Of The Art in Architecture. First Chicago Biennial. Inaugurated in October of 2015, it presents exhibitions, installations and events. It tries to expose different and extraordinary ways in which architects, artists, designers and activists confront the challenges en their respective fields.
Studio MK27.Founded by Marcio Kogan in the eighties. In his studio, there is a reinterpretation of the common vocabulary between national and international culture. Rodrigo Kommers Wender and Javier Agustín Rojas interviewed Marcio Kogan and talked about his personal history, parallel interests in film and his collection of architecture drawings. We published the following projects: Casa Mororó, Casa Txai, Livraria Cultura and Vertical Itaim.
Neutelings Riedijk Architects.Founded by Willem Jan Neutelings and Michiel Riedijk in Rotterdam in 1987. One can identify this studio because of their public, commercial and cultural buildings that have a programmatic complexity and a laborious work in their decorative surfaces. We publish three of their most recent projects: Aan de Stroom Museum, Library and School of Art Rozet and Cultural Center and Library Eemhuis.
10 años of adamo-faiden. The studio adamo-faiden celebrates its ten years. Their production proposes and represents the guidelines of a new architecture of the city of Buenos Aires that respond to a personal and living tradition that combines disciplinary, contemporary and universal references. In this edition we present five of their projects: Casa Piñeiro, Casa Fernández, Casa Blas, summer dwellings Sociedad de Mar and Catalina Park.
OOT 029/ Ciro Najle and Julián Varas converse in the Ecological Reserve of Buenos Aires.
Crecimiento desigual: urbanismo táctico para megaciudades en expansión. Escenarios y especulaciones sobre las desigualdades urbanas actuales. This article reflects the preoccupation of growing inequalities in the distribution of economical resources and space in cities. This is demonstrated in the intentions of the MoMA exhibition.
