PLOT 23 PLOT 23

The first issue of 2015 is on the street, PLOT 23! You can find it in bookstores and in our virtual store. This new issue of PLOT presents EM2N´s project Toni-Areal – an old milk processing building transformed in a educational, cultural and dwelling project that includes an exclusive introduction by Andres Herzog–. The project includes the history of the building in detail and the evolution of the largest reconversion transformed into university in Europe.

In this edition the article “Dos esquinas” (Two Corners) by Javier Agustín Rojas introduces Abasto Ancho/ Tetris Homes, project by Ariel Jacubovich, Iaron Jacubovich and Mercedes 3880 by MMCV – two buildings located in corner plots in the city of Buenos Aires – and discusses about the similarities and antagonisms in relationship to their design strategies and interactions with the urban context.

Lastly, the practice section presents the work of Caruso St John, the office leaded by Adam Caruso and Peter St John with headquarters in London and Zurich. Europaallee Baufeld E, Nottingham Contemporary and Tate Britain are located in very dissimilar contexts with programs and particular interventions. An interview to Adam Caruso gives us a better insight about his and Peter´s academic background and expresses his concerns regarding the history of architecture in relationship to design approaches.

In the theory section of PLOT 23 Ciro Najle converses with PLOT´s editorial director, Florencia Rodríguez, in a new edition of Out of Time. An exclusive article by Mariel Villeré – “La producción de conocimiento en Public Space? Lost and Found” deepens on the symposium carried out by the MIT in relationship to the work done by Antoni Muntadas on the multiple definitions of public space and its’ complexities throughout the disciplines, tools, tactics and consequences of claiming the public space throughout architecture and art.

Florencia Rodríguez converses with Diana Agrest about “The Making of Avant Garde: The Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies 1967-1984”, a documentary which she produced, wrote and directed. Lastly, in this edition of PLOT we publish for the first time in Spanish the essay “Diseño vs. No-diseño” by Diana Agrest that originally appeared in Oppositions 6 in 1979.
